The Polynesians have great respect for the dolphin and look upon them as their guardian in the sea.
The Pele’s warm and friendly welcome to those at sea always brings joy and comfort to many.
When the Polynesians see a dolphin or Pele surround or jump over canoes or fisherman’s boat.
It is a warning that there is danger in the water and the fisherman will return to land.
Sometimes the dolphin will push people or canoes to safety.
